Education and Community COVID-19 Updates

Community organizations, schools, and universities likewise enjoy a large presence in and around our district boundaries. See the list below to read about closures, changes, and other statements from community organizations, schools, and universities.

NYC Public Schools will close Monday, March 16, 2020. School buildings are scheduled to reopen to students following Spring Recess on Monday, April 20, 2020. Click here for more information. 

Fordham University has suspended face-to-face instruction and is moving classes online; Graduate School of Social Service classes are suspended through spring break, resuming online Monday, March 23.

NYIT has suspended all in-person classes at its New York City and Long Island campuses. Existing online classes will be held. Classes will resume remotely on Monday, March 23.

CUNY schools, including John Jay College of Criminal Justice, will not have on-campus classes from March 12-18. Most classes will move to distance learning on Thursday, March 19 for the remainder of the semester. CUNY schools, dorms, libraries, research facilities, day care centers, labs remain open.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ temple at 125 Columbus Avenue will be closed until Wednesday, April 1. 

All public meetings for Community Board 7 (CB7)  have been cancelled through the end of March. Staff will be working remotely. Click here to read CB7’s advisory notice on the COVID-19 situation

All public meetings for Community Board 4 (CB4) will be held via phone/video conference. Links to the conferences will be posted in advance on CB4’s calendar page. Staff will be working remotely. 

The New York City Council has closed its headquarters at 250 Broadway and all of its district offices.

All of Goddard Riverside’s senior centers and programs are now closed. Goddard is also postponing public Community Arts performances at the Bernie Wohl Center. Anyone coming to a Goddard facility should expect to be screened prior to entry. Goddard Riverside will be open as a senior center meal pickup location from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) will be closed until Friday, March 27.

Dorot has canceled all its programs until further notice. All home-based programming will continue for now.

The GrowNYC Richard Tucker Park Greenmarket will continue to take place on Thursdays and Saturdays.
