On Wednesday, April 21, Mayor de Blasio and Fred Dixon, President and CEO of NYC & Company, announced a $30 million marketing campaign aimed at boosting New York’s tourism recovery. Called “NYC Reawakens,” the campaign will reinforce the City’s resilience and let potential visitors know that New York is ready to welcome them to a more vibrant city than ever before.
NYC & Co. predicts that 36.4 million people will visit New York this year, recovering to more than 50% of the pre-pandemic high of 66.6 million visitors in 2019. According to NYC & Co., New York is projected to exceed its 2019 record visits in 2024, with 69.3 million visitors.
The “NYC Reawakens” campaign will accompany other campaigns aimed at bolstering tourism as New York emerges from the pandemic. NYC & Co. also launched the “Wish You Were Here in NYC” campaign, which allows New Yorkers to extend an invitation to their loved ones to visit them in New York. Participants who send an invitation as part of the program also have access to safety guidelines, trip planning tools, and the chance to win surprise content.
