MTA Congestion Pricing Hearings

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) public comment period of the proposed tolling structure for Central Business District Tolling, New York’s congestion pricing program, is now open. The agency is accepting written and audio comments and will hold four hybrid virtual/in-person public hearings in February and March. The first hearing will be accessible online at mta.info/CBDTP on Thursday, February 29, at 6:00pm.







Alternate Side Parking Update







Alternate side parking (street cleaning) is suspended on Monday, February 12, 2024, for Lincoln’s Birthday. Meters will remain in effect. You can find the full NYC Alternate Side Parking Calendar here

 







Starbucks at 1889 Broadway Temporarily Closes







The Starbucks located across from Dante Park (Broadway & 63rd Street) is currently closed for renovations, likely for a few months. In the meantime, there are many other great coffee spots to try, including Breads Bakery (just across the street at 1890 Broadway), or the Starbucks at 141 Amsterdam (between W 66th St and W 67th St). Help West Siders Decide How to Spend $1 Million







Participatory Budgeting is how residents in Council District 6 decide how to spend $1 million on capital projects in the district. In April, the PB ballot with the top ideas for 6th District residents to vote on will circulate. Volunteers are needed to help get the ballots out and to raise awareness. To learn more about volunteering (even kids can be voting ambassadors!), join the volunteer open house on Thursday, February 8, 5:30pm – 6:45pm at St. Agnes Library (444 Amsterdam Ave, 3rd floor).

 







Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs







NYC Small Business Services (SBS) is celebrating women entrepreneurs this month with several events and programs. SBS will have a panel discussion, “Celebrating Asian Women Entrepreneurs,” on February 9, 1-on-1 mentoring sessions, and many other group mentoring sessions. Find more events here.

 







Public Safety Forum







On Tuesday, February 13, at 6:30 pm, the Upper West Side Coalition of Block Associations is hosting an online public safety forum where attendees can hear from the Commanding Officers of our local precincts (20, 24, and Central Park) as they provide updates on matters of public safety on the Upper West Side. Learn More About the City of Yes







The Department of City Planning (DCP) will host a series of public information sessions on components of the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal from 6:30pm – 8:30pm on the following dates:

City of Yes for Housing Opportunity is the third of three City of Yes initiatives to update New York City’s zoning; the first, for Carbon Neutrality, was adopted by the Council in December; the second, for Economic Opportunity, is currently being considered by community boards and borough presidents, and will come before the City Planning Commission for a hearing and vote later this winter.

 







Newly Proposed Idling Law







The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is proposing to amend its rules to define the term “adjacent” as it relates to vehicle idling as set forth in section 24-163 of the Administrative Code. DEP will hold a public hearing on the proposed rule online. The public hearing will take place at 11:00am on March 7, 2024. To participate in the public hearing, find meeting details here.

 







Mayor’s Management Report







Twice a year, City Hall publishes the Mayor’s Management Report (MMR), a charter-mandated report card on how the City is measuring up. It serves as a public accounting of City agency performance, tracking whether agencies are delivering services efficiently, effectively, and expeditiously. The latest MMR was released last week and can be found here.

 







NYC Free Tax Prep







The IRS began accepting tax returns on January 29, and the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) wants to make sure all eligible New Yorkers use the NYC Free Tax Prep. New Yorkers who earned $85,000 or less for families or $59,000 or less as single filers in 2023 will be eligible to file for free with an IRS certified VITA/TCE volunteer preparer using NYC Free Tax Prep. The services are also available for self-employed filers, such as small business owners, freelancers, and gig workers.
