Every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Richard Tucker Park (Broadway at West 66th Street) becomes the home of a bustling Greenmarket. Early in the morning, farm stands spring up to sell local produce, cheese, meat, seafood, flowers, honey, maple syrup, baked goods, and more! All of the farmers arrive in Lincoln Square from within 250 miles of New York City, ensuring that everything is fresh.
This fall, apples are one of the seasonal stars of the market. Locust Grove Fruit Farm, which harvests more than 70 different types of apples, and Prospect Hill Orchards have many apple products for sale, including apple sauce, apple cider, and apple cider donuts. With 19 different stalls across the two days, there is much to taste and discover. Pick up your weekly vegetables from The Grandpa Farm, Great Joy Family Farm, and Good Find Farm. Or for something out of the ordinary, seek out unique items from Wood Homestead Maple Syrup, Tivoli Mushrooms, and Ballard’s Honey.
With the holidays approaching, the Greenmarket in Richard Tucker Park is a great place to prepare for a Thanksgiving feast and other family gatherings. Knoll Krest Farm is selling fresh cranberries, and Rancho Hermanos Luna has a wide variety of fresh flowers ideal for centerpiece arrangements. A perfect way to cap off a visit to the farmers market is with a sweet treat. Check out the pies and pastries from Meredith’s Bread, Francesca’s Bakery, and She Wolf Bakery—especially She Wolf’s red kuri squash, cardamom, and poppy seed seasonal day cake.
You can rest and enjoy the sights and sounds of the market at Richard Tucker Park’s moveable tables and chairs, which are provided by the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District. Each day, the BID’s Clean Team maintains this street furniture, while also sweeping the neighborhood, emptying trash cans, removing stickers and graffiti, and more to keep the neighborhood looking its best. The beautiful seasonal flowers and shrubs seen around the Park are maintained by the Lincoln Square BID with support from the family of the late, great Richard Tucker, a renowned operatic tenor and cantor, whose bust by artist Milton Hebald is in the center of Richard Tucker’s namesake Park.
The Greenmarket is organized by GrowNYC, an environmental nonprofit that will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. The market accepts SNAP/EBT and offers additional benefits. Stop by GrowNYC’s stand at the market or click here for more information.
