Traffic Alerts
Alternate Side Parking: Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended for Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, November 27. The full NYC ASP calendar can be found here.
Gridlock Alert Days: The NYC Department of Transportation has classified Thursday, November 20, and Tuesday, November 25, as Gridlock Alert Days due to expected heavy traffic. For more information, click here.
79th Street Traffic Circle Closure: Through Saturday, December 20, construction on the West 79th Street traffic circle will result in closure of the southbound West 79th Street exit ramp off the West Side Highway/Henry Hudson Parkway from 10:00pm to 5:00am (Monday to Friday), and 12:01am to 7:00am on Saturdays. If you do not exit at West 95th Street during those hours, the next exit is within the Congestion Zone and you’ll be charged a toll.
Community Update: Extell Development’s 67th Street Redevelopment (Former ABC/Disney Campus)
Extell Development is doing demolition work at the former ABC/Disney site (West 66th to 67th Streets). From Monday, November 10, to Saturday, November 22, the scope of work includes demolition of the existing buildings located at 147 Columbus Avenue, 149 Columbus Avenue, 77 West 66th Street, and 47 West 66th Street. Hauling and trucking will take place as needed to facilitate the removal of building elements on 66th Street and 67th Street. Pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular routes will remain open around the construction site, per approvals from the NYC DOT. Flagmen will be deployed to construction trucking entry and exit locations. The work hours of operation are anticipated to be 7:00am to 6:00pm from Monday to Friday.
Columbus Circle Escalator
The up escalator at the Columbus Circle Subway Station on the west side of Columbus Circle between West 58th and 59th Street has returned to service. To read more, click here.
Holiday Embargo for Permits
Citywide Event Coordination and Management has put into effect a holiday embargo for permits from Wednesday, November 26, to Friday, January 2, due to the increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic during the holiday season. Dining Out NYC
Roadway dining season ends Saturday, November 29. Roadway cafés must stop operating and be removed from the street by that date. The roadway dining season resumes on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Sidewalk cafés can continue to operate year-round. For more information, click here.
Hearings About Proposed Rules
Contracted Delivery Workers: The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is holding a hearing about proposed rules related to the implementation of several Local Laws concerning contracted delivery workers. The hearing will be held virtually on Monday, December 8, at 11:00am. To read about these potential rule changes, visit the NYC rules website. Comments can also be submitted to DCWP via this same website. If you wish to submit information that cannot be uploaded to this website, such as datasets, videos, or screen recordings, please email this information to Rulecomments@dcwp.nyc.gov.
Restaurant Surcharges: DCWP is proposing to amend its rules to clarify legitimate (bona fide) restaurant service charges and to clarify restaurant labor-oriented surcharges. The hearing on this topic will be held virtually on Wednesday, December 10, at 11:00am. More information on the proposal, the virtual meeting, and how to submit comments can be found here.
Statewide Holiday Window Display Contest
The Retail Council of New York State is hosting its third annual statewide window display contest. To enter the contest, email a photo of your holiday storefront to info@rcnys.com with your business name and location. Entries will be accepted until Sunday, December 14.
