This fall, Lincoln Square is the place to see A-listers like George Clooney, Ethan Hawke, and Julia Roberts on screen and in conversation!
From September 26 to October 13, the New York Film Festival presented by Film at Lincoln Center is returning for an annual celebration of the most significant new and classic films from around the world. This year’s lineup includes more than 80 current films, revivals, and spotlights—some of which are paired with a Q&A session with the film’s actors and directors.
Many of the films feature some of the biggest names in show business in provocative roles and behind the camera. Highlights include:
- The world premier of Is This Thing On?, directed by Bradley Cooper, in which Will Arnett and Laura Dern play a couple whose separation leads to unpredictable midlife self-reckonings; Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary about iconic director Martin Scorsese, told through Scorsese’s own words and new interviews with creative collaborators and family members; and Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost, a personal, funny, andmoving documentary directed by Ben Stiller about the story of his parents: the comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, who were a beloved mainstay of 1960s and ’70s pop culture.
- The North America premier of A House of Dynamite, a thriller from director Kathryn Bigelow, who is best known for the award-winning war films Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, starring Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and Gabriel Basso.
- The New York premier of Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney as the last great movie star, directed by Noah Baumbach; and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, a biographical drama featuring The Bear-star Jeremy Allen White as 1980s-era Bruce Springsteen.
All screenings are taking place at either Walter Reade Theater or the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center at Lincoln Center (165 and 144 West 65th Street), making it easy for movie-goers to see multiple films in one day. For people looking to attend several shows, there are great deals to be had by becoming a member of Film at Lincoln Center. Members can sign up to receive discounts on New York Film Festival merchandise and free popcorn and soda, among other perks.
Movie-goers don’t need to sustain themselves on popcorn alone—there are many convenient dining options located nearby, perfect for getting food and drinks before, after, or in-between showings. For the occasion, Café Paradiso (located in the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center), is offering 10% off menu items for Film at Lincoln Center members (proof of membership required) and FLC ticket holders on the day of their screening.
Looking to grab a quick meal or snack near the Festival? Options include Dig (100 West 67th Street), Le Pain Quotidien (60 West 65th Street), Breads Bakery (1890 Broadway at West 63rd Street), The Independent Café (61 West 62nd Street), Le Botaniste (156 Columbus Avenue at West 67th Street), and Rosetta Bakery (1928 Broadway at West 64th Street). More formal, sit-down dining options also abound. Lincoln Ristorante (142 West 65th Street) and Café Fiorello (1900 Broadway and West 63rd and 64th Street) are great sports for an Italian meal, longtime favorite Rosa Mexicano recently relocated into the iconic Empire Hotel building (44 West 63rd Street), and P.J. Clarke’s (44 West 63rd Street) and The Smith (1900 Broadway at West 63rd and 64th Street) are perfect destinations for classic American fare.
Tickets for the Festival went on sale earlier this month, but it’s not too late to find tickets on the New York Film Festival website. Now in its 63rd year, this might be the best New York Film Festival yet!
