It’s spooky season, but there’s nothing scary about the wide array of fun Halloween events happening in Lincoln Square!
The Shops at Columbus Circle is getting into the Halloween spirit with Haunted Hollywood by Voss Events (10 Columbus Circle, 4th Floor), a cocktails, food, and mature entertainment experience (ages 21+) that features reimagined horror icons, like the Bride of Frankenstein (pictured), in new and edgy ways. Prepare to be wowed with aerial acts, burlesque, live vocals, dance, jazz-infused Halloween classics performed by a live band, and more. Tickets begin at $69.87 and are available here, with shows scheduled through Saturday, November 1.
On Friday, October 24, Color Me Mine (177 Amsterdam Avenue at West 68th Street), the ceramics painting studio, is getting wicked with a Witches & Wine night. Beginning at 4:00pm, put on your costume and create your own haunting masterpiece. Each $25 ticket covers the studio fee and Halloween treats. Pottery and wine are additional and chosen on the day of the event. Color Me Mine is also hosting a Vintage Halloween Painting night on Thursday, October 30, at 6:00pm ($25 studio fee, additional fee applies to pottery).
On Sunday, October 26, Open Streets, hosted by the Columbus Avenue BID from West 68th Street to West 77th Street along Columbus Avenue, is part of NYC’s Trick-or-Streets. From 12:00pm to 7:00pm, the roadway will be closed to traffic so people can enjoy family-friendly activities and live performances. A full list of NYC’s Trick-or-Streets—which temporarily close off roadways for interactive shows and activities—is available here.
Also on Sunday, October 26, join the New York Society for Ethical Culture’s Green Halloween, a free DIY sustainable costume workshop where kids are invited to turn recycled materials into unique costumes. RSVP here to join the fun from 10:00am to 12:30pm at 2 West 64th Street—the Society will provide donated materials to use, and attendees are also invited to bring their own!
Learn to make your own cute, folded paper Halloween decorations at a free Teen Halloween Origami workshop hosted by the New York Public Library’s Riverside Branch (127 Amsterdam Avenue at West 65th Street). Join the crafting fun on Wednesday, October 29, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, where supplies and snacks will be provided.
On Thursday, October 30, head to A MAD Halloween Party for an afternoon of hands-on activities at the Museum of Arts and Design (2 Columbus Circle). From 3:00pm to 6:00pm, wear your costume and drop by for dancing and arts and craft activities. There is a $10 admission fee, but the event is free for ages 12 and under, as well as MAD members.
While indulging in your favorite Halloween sweets, why not also burn some calories at a fun run? Fleet Feet (10 Columbus Circle, 2nd Floor) is hosting a duo of free, Halloween-themed runs through Central Park: the Trick or Trot Shakeout Run on Thursday, October 30, at 6:30pm and the Halloween Breakfast Run on Friday, October 31, at 8:30am. The festivities continue after the run with raffles, giveaways, and more!
Friday, October 31, is the big day! Make sure you’re stocked for trick-or-treaters by picking up candy from Whole Foods Market (10 Columbus Circle, Lower Level), Morton Williams (2015 Broadway at West 68th Street), Gourmet Garage (155 West 66th Street), and Target (1863 Broadway at West 61st Street). Target and Paper Source (10 Columbus Circle, 3rd Floor) are great places to get decorations that can turn any apartment into a haunted house. Williams Sonoma (10 Columbus Circle, Ground Floor), Pottery Barn (1965 Broadway at West 67th Street), and West Elm (1870 Broadway at West 61st Street) are destinations for home goods perfect for Halloween parties. To see the most over-the-top Halloween decorations in Lincoln Square, head to West 69th Street from Central Park West to Broadway, which will be closed to traffic from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to allow the costumed crowds to enjoy the night out to the fullest.
