River: A Hudson Memoir recounts author Leslie Day’s time living in the 79th Street Boat Basin. As one of the “liveaboards,” she had firsthand experience in all aspects of life on the river — from personal relationships among family and neighbors to the broader community of birds and aquaculture. Day artfully illustrates the experience of riding the waves of NYC life with the added buoyancy of her Hudson River dwelling.

Leslie Day is a native New Yorker. She is the author of Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City, Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City, Field Guide to the Neighborhood Birds of New York City, and Honeybee Hotel: the Waldorf Astoria’s Roof Garden and the Heart of New York City. Day shared her passion for the natural world as a middle school life sciences teacher of nearly two decades.
