For those of you who need to take a beat and a deep breath, you are in luck!
The NY Philharmonic has a new series supporting mental health and wellness through the arts called Take a Breath. The free matinee series offers 90-minute workshops that are inspired by mindfulness, stress relief, and therapeutic arts and designed to deepen the connection between wellness practices and music.
The sessions launched on February 26 and will continue on March 4 and 19, April 16 and 22, May 6, and June 10. Some of the facilitators include Sara Auster, Kendall Johnson-Smith, and Oneika Mays, as well as NY Phil musicians and guest artists, such as saxophonist Steven Banks. The workshops take place at the Kenneth C. Griffin Sidewalk Studio at David Geffen Hall on the corner of Columbus Avenue and 65th Street and begin at 11:00am.
You can register for the events online; however, many of the sessions already appear to be sold out. If you are not able to register in advance, there will be a first-come, first-served standby line available on the day of the workshops, but entry for standby guests is not guaranteed.
