Three hundred and sixty-five days a year, the BID plays a vital role in Lincoln Square, acting as neighborhood planner, caretaker, problem solver, marketer, advocate, and promoter of economic development. As a steward of the neighborhood, the BID ensures curbs and sidewalks are clean and safe, public spaces are lushly planted, and that our dynamic marketing efforts put Lincoln Square in the spotlight.
Public Safety
The Lincoln Square BID’s licensed Public Safety Officers patrol the neighborhood, acting as additional eyes and ears for the NYPD and tracking and referring various conditions throughout the neighborhood to the appropriate City agencies or to BID staff for corrective action. The unarmed officers are also neighborhood ambassadors, gladly answering questions, giving directions, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
Area Maintenance
The Lincoln Square BID’s dedicated Clean Team, with assistance from Goddard Riverside’s Green Keepers, works diligently to keep Lincoln Square pristine and free of litter. The Clean Team performs a myriad of duties, including sweeping sidewalks and bagging trash, emptying trash receptacles, and removing graffiti and stickers. In winter, they remove snow and ice from corners, crosswalks, bus stops, and fire hydrants.
Streetscape and Beautification
The Lincoln Square BID’s Streetscape and Beautification Program is one of our organization’s most visible and successful neighborhood improvements. When the BID was established in 1996, we immediately identified the enhancement of the district’s public spaces, especially its ten Broadway Malls, as a key objective. With plenty of elbow grease and well over $2.5 million raised from our supporters over the last 30 years, Lincoln Square’s public spaces and parks, including Dante and Richard Tucker, and its malls from 60th to 70th Street have been transformed into green urban oases.
Marketing and Promotion
In its marketing role, the Lincoln Square BID invites the public to experience the diverse local business and cultural offerings of the neighborhood, from stylish shops and standout restaurants to world-class music, opera, and dance. The BID accomplishes this through social media, a bi-weekly newsletter (The Link), a robust online neighborhood guide and events calendar, and three Information Carts stocked with helpful information. To further foster community and drive foot traffic to support local businesses, the BID produces free events, including Summer Jazz Sensations at Dante Park and Holidays in Lincoln Square, featuring Magical Lights, caroling and the WinteRamble – an illuminated neighborhood procession.
