Lincoln Square BID’s advocacy work is key to the success of its mission and is driven by the needs and interests of our community—residents, businesses, property owners, and visitors. We actively build relationships and engage with government leaders, City agencies, and our colleagues at the NYC BID Association to address the district’s challenges and find collaborative solutions.

The BID’s advocacy work encompasses all quality of life aspects in the neighborhood and requires attention to detail and successful partnerships. Daily, the BID works with the NYPD and the 20th Precinct and the NYC Department of Sanitation to address public safety and cleanliness issues.
Throughout the year, BID staff work closely with the NYC Department of Small Business Services and Community Board’s 4 and 7, and have conducted walkthroughs with the Manhattan Borough President, the Mayor’s Office for Public Safety, the NYC Departments of Transportation, Consumer & Worker Protection, Environmental Protection, the outreach team from the NYC Department of Homeless Services, and other community partners.
We have also worked with the Manhattan DA’s office to provide free training on trespass notices to area property owners, security directors, and businesses as part of an ongoing effort to reduce retail theft and recidivism. We maintain ongoing communications with stakeholders and are members of the Executive Advisory Subcommittee of NYPD Shield, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Small Business Alliance, and the Mayor’s Retail Task Force.
As a public-private partnership with strong links between area businesses, community organizations and local government, we are here to help solve problems, serve as a catalyst for improvements and promote positive change in Lincoln Square.

The neighborhood is not only safer because of the BID’s work—it’s more beautiful as well. Through sustained advocacy and close partnership with City agencies, the BID championed renovations and secured approvals for our two Broadway parks: Dante Park and Richard Tucker Park. With funding from NYC Council Member Brewer and the Parks Department, both parks were refurbished, expanded under DOT’s pedestrian safety plan, and made more accessible. DOT also installed granite blocks to protect seating areas from traffic, added a bike rack, and completed key infrastructure upgrades, including improved drainage to prevent flooding. Today, these revitalized parks are beautifully maintained by the BID.
To further care for the neighborhood, the BID has partnered closely, and continues to partner with DSNY to containerize trash in the district—successfully installing 10 Citibins (rodent-proof trash containers) to get all BID trash bags of public litter off the sidewalks each day for collection.
We continually evaluate new opportunities to advocate for the district, drawing on insights from our staff and Board, reports from our Public Safety Officers, and feedback from the community. Each year, the BID conducts a Quality of Life Survey, giving everyone in the district an opportunity to share their thoughts, concerns, and perspectives.
