Streetscape and Beautification

Over the past 30 years, the Lincoln Square BID has transformed the neighborhood’s 10 Broadway Malls and two parks, Dante and Richard Tucker, from unkempt areas into beautiful, thriving communal spaces. Vibrant plantings and seasonal flowers do more than enhance the streetscape—they create welcoming, uplifting environments, foster community pride, and contribute to a neighborhood’s sense of safety and well-being.

After more than 15 years of advocacy and collaboration with City agencies, the Lincoln Square BID has helped transform Dante Park at 63rd Street and Richard Tucker Park at 66th Street into beautifully renovated, accessible spaces. Dante Park’s 2013 makeover introduced safety-conscious features like smooth paving and improved pedestrian crossings, while Richard Tucker Park’s record-setting renovation replaced uneven cobblestones with ADA-compliant granite. Subsequent enhancements—including DOT’s Lincoln Square Bowtie expansion, drainage improvements, granite safety blocks, and the addition of bike racks in 2023—have further improved accessibility and safety.

Today, these structural enhancements and the BID’s ongoing beautification efforts have made it so that Dante and Richard Tucker Parks are places where residents, workers, students, theater patrons, shoppers, diners, and tourists want to linger. The BID furnishes the parks with dozens of moveable tables, chairs, and umbrellas. As tables and chairs age, we replace them for safety and aesthetic reasons. Both parks play a major entertainment role in the BID’s free events schedule throughout the year, with holiday lighting and programming as well as free summer concerts filling the parks with lively entertainment.
